Add value to yourselves
Ghanaian youth have been urged to develop and add value to themselves through continuous studies.
Mr. Patrick Otieku Boadu, President of Spearhead Consult who threw the challenge to the youth, said Ghanaian youth needed to see beyond the physical, discover their inner potentials and grow them.
He said this had become necessary because the world today was looking for people with content, people you can make something out of and people who can lead wherever they found themselves.
To be able to reach the top of the ladder and make a mark, he said one needed knowledge, skill and the right attitude.
Mr. Boadu was speaking on the topic Moving from Your Comfort Zone at the third edition of the Empowerment Seminar organised jointly by the Kaneshie and Kpehe Deanery Youth Councils of the Accra Archdiocese.
The Day’s Seminar, held at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at Kaneshie was attended by over 500 young people from the Various Parishes and Outstations in the two Deaneries.
Mr. Boadu advised the youth to break through their limitations and move out of their comfort zones if they wanted to progress and be successful in life.
He noted that although moving out of one’s comfort zone may be uncomfortable at the beginning, there was the need to make strenuous and conscious effort to adapt to whatever situation you might encounter and focus on your destination.
The Motivational Speaker encouraged young people to set goals for themselves and work towards achieving them. “The moment you set a goal that is beyond you, you become creative and innovative”, he added.
He asked them to see barriers in their lives as driving forces and not as stumbling blocks and advised them to take control of their lives.
Mr. Boadu advised the youth to be passionate about whatever they wanted to achieve in life, see obstacles as challenges and strive to hit the mark, encouraging them to be flexible and open up to new opportunities.
He said as young people they needed to be innovative and make good use of their potentials and advised them not to stay at home idle after school, waiting to be employed, but exert their energy and time into something profitable.
Mr. Boadu concluded with the five ‘Ps’ of success which are Purpose, Peace, Process, Progress and Profit.
He explained that to be successful, one needed to begin life with a purpose, be at peace with the purpose, go through the process since nothing comes out of the blue and check the progress to determine if you have made profit.
Speaking on Laws Relating to Business and Human Rights, Nana Oye Lithur, former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, said there was the need for Organisations and Companies to come up with regulations on Human Rights and ensure that they are strictly adhered to.
She stressed the need for employers to provide a conducive working environment for employees and urged government and other stakeholders to look at the dynamics between human rights and businesses.
Mrs. Lithur lamented that most people’s rights are violated because they are ignorant of their rights and urged employees to speak boldly against abuses at the workplace.
She advised employees to join any Union of their choice to step in to fight for their rights.
Prior to Mrs. Lithur’s presentation, participants had group discussions on Corruption and Human Rights Issues in Ghanaians Businesses; Protecting Ghana’s Environment and Galamsey- The Role of Businesses and the Youth and Human Rights Standards that Businesses should Adopt.
The Kaneshie Deanery Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Hilary Agbenosi and his Assistant, Rev. Fr. Winfred Charles Lwanga Tawiah and some of the Deanery Executives presented citations to the Speakers.
